Cornelius-Lemley Fire and Rescue responded to 65 calls for service over the past 10 days, helping out at a major fire that destroyed a home in Mount Mourne, securing two gas leaks and assisting at five vehicle accidents. Altogether the department had 14 fire alarms. More information about these incidents and others below, along with a tally of this week's medical calls.

A W.A. Hough High School student was struck by a pickup truck on Davidson-Concord Road Friday morning as he skateboarded near the entrance to the River Run and Bradford neighborhoods. He was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with life-threatening injuries. Read more on DavidsonNews.net.

The town’s department of Parks, Arts, Recreation and Culture will host a meeting Thursday night to present the proposed alignment for the Caldwell Station Creek Greenway. The $2 million, 2-mile greenway will link Bailey Road Park on NC 115 with US 21 near the Home Depot.

State Rep. Robert Brawley (R-Mooresville) resigned as chair of the House Finance Committee Wednesday saying he disagrees with decisions of the Republican-led legislature and accusing House Speaker Thom Tillis (R-Cornelius) of mistreating him. The Mecklenburg Union Metropolitan Planning Organization voted unanimously Wednesday night to add the N.C. DOT's proposed I-77 widening project to the region's long-range transportation plan and priority list. The vote was uneventful, but the meeting wasn't, as toll opponents packed a meeting room in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center continuing their fight against the widening project.
