On Sunday, Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Cornelius will celebrate its 185th anniversary with a special service followed by fellowship on the church lawn. Meanwhile, Davidson United Methodist Church's Boy Scout Troop 82 will hold a pancake breakfast on the lawn Sunday, June 3; Davidson Presbyterian Church will host a fundraising church breakfast Saturday, May 19, in downtown Davidson; and Hopewell Presbyterian plans a picnic lunch at Latta Plantation this Sunday. Also, Davidson College Presbyterian has a special graduation day schedule, and DCPC and other area Presbyterian churches are helping out Ramah Presbyterian, a sister congregation, for a couple of months this spring while the pastor is on medical leave. At the Lake Norman Chamber’s Focus Friday event May 18, commercial property owners will learn how to properly prepare for a revaluation appeal hearing. Former chamber chairman John Hettwer, president of Payroll Plus, and Robbie Lowrance of Merit Properties Commercial Real Estate will discuss the appeals process and the steps commercial property owners should take in advance of their hearings.

Two weeks after Mecklenburg County Commissioners voted in favor of an independent review of the county’s 2011 property revaluation, they voted Tuesday on a timeline for the review and to require citizen involvement in the review process.

Police are investigating the theft of thousands of dollars worth of copper tubing from Service Plumbing of Charlotte on Northline Drive this week. Meanwhile, two men that robbed a Cornelius Rite Aid at gunpoint Jan. 23 now are suspects in a string of other armed robberies, according to a report in the Statesville Record and Landmark this week. Also, more copper wiring was stolen from homes under construction, two people had firearms stolen, a woman sustained minor injuries when a vehicle hit her bicycle.
